Open-Source and Free Software

Arakhnê.org is a long-standing website dedicated to the creation and distribution of open-source and free software. Founded in 2001 by Stéphane Galland, it serves as a central hub for a suite of software tools and libraries, primarily written in Java or LaTeX, that aim to provide developers with powerful resources not always available in standard APIs.

A Hub of Open-Source Projects

The website hosts several notable projects, including:

  • AutoLaTeX: A tool designed to automate the process of building LaTeX documents, a popular system for typesetting complex documents, especially in academia.
  • TeX-UPmethodology: A LaTeX theme for creating professional reports and books.
  • TeX-templates: A collection of LaTeX themes for slides, PhD dissertations, reports, etc.

Arakhnê Foundation Classes (AFC)

At the heart of Arakhnê.org's development efforts are the Arakhnê Foundation Classes (AFC), a comprehensive collection of Java libraries designed to make application building more efficient.

  • Utility and Power: The AFC provides a range of tools that extend the standard Java API, including geometry utilities, a geographical information framework, and more.
  • Multi-Language Support: While a Java library, the AFC is built to be compatible with other JVM languages. It provides specific features and operator overloading for languages such as SARL (an agent-oriented language), Scala, and Xtend to make development more intuitive.
  • Easy Integration: Developers can easily integrate the AFC into their projects. Stable versions of the libraries are published on the Maven Central Repository, while development snapshots are available directly from Arakhnê.org's own Maven server.
